Everything people ask before booking.
If something isn't here, write to us — we'd rather answer it beforehand than have you wonder about it in the waiting room.
Booking & payment
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. Book directly online. If you'd like your report sent to a physician, tell us at your appointment and we'll email it the same day.
Does insurance cover this?
These are self-pay wellness scans, so we don't bill insurance. HSA and FSA cards work, and we'll give you an itemised receipt if you want to submit it yourself.
When do I pay?
At the clinic, after your scan. Nothing is charged when you book.
Can I reschedule or cancel?
Free up to 24 hours before your slot, from the link in your confirmation email. Inside 24 hours, call us and we'll do what we can.
How long is the appointment really?
Thirty minutes per test, including your debrief. Two tests take an hour, all three take ninety minutes. We don't double-book, so you won't be sitting around.
Safety & eligibility
How much radiation is involved?
A whole-body DEXA scan delivers a dose on the order of a few microsieverts — a small fraction of a chest X-ray, and less than you'd absorb on a flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. It is still ionising radiation, which is why we suggest scanning only as often as the measurement warrants.
Can I scan if I'm pregnant?
No. If you're pregnant or think you might be, tell us and we'll move your appointment at no cost.
Is there a weight or height limit?
The table is rated to 450 lb, and the scan window accommodates most people up to about 6'5". If you're near either limit, call ahead — there's a validated half-body protocol we can use instead.
What about implants, plates, or a pacemaker?
None of them are a safety problem — DEXA is not magnetic. Metal hardware does affect the tissue readings in that region, so tell us what you have and where, and we'll note it on the report and exclude the region if needed.
Is the VO₂ max test safe for me?
For most healthy adults, yes — it's a maximal effort test with a technician beside you the whole time. If you have known heart disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, or chest pain on exertion, talk to your physician first and we'll ask for their clearance.
Results & reports
When do I get my results?
Before you leave. A technician walks the report with you for about ten minutes, and the PDF is emailed the same day.
Is this a diagnosis?
No. We're a testing facility, not a medical practice. We measure carefully and explain what the numbers mean; interpreting them in the context of your health is your physician's role. If something in your results warrants attention, we'll say so plainly and tell you to go.
Can you send the report to my doctor or trainer?
Yes, with your written consent. Give us the address at your appointment and we'll email it directly.
Do you keep my scans?
Yes — that's what makes a follow-up meaningful. Your scans stay on file so every future visit is charted against your own history rather than a population average.
Accuracy & follow-ups
How accurate is it?
Whole-body fat percentage repeats to roughly one percentage point on a well-calibrated scanner with consistent positioning. That's far tighter than any consumer method, and it's the reason we're specific about prep. More on the method.
How soon should I come back?
Three to four months for body composition, twelve for bone density. Sooner than that and you're mostly reading measurement noise. The full reasoning is here.
Can I compare a scan from another clinic?
Loosely, and we'd be careful about it. Different machines and software versions don't produce interchangeable numbers, so treat an outside scan as background rather than a true baseline.
Why does prep matter so much?
Hydration, food, and recent exercise can each shift your reading by more than the change you're trying to detect. Keeping them consistent is what makes two scans comparable. Prep instructions.
Choosing a test
Which one should I book first?
The DEXA scan, for almost everyone. It's the widest read for the money and it includes bone density. Compare all three.
Can I do all three in one visit?
Yes, and most people who want the full picture do. Ninety minutes, $297, one debrief covering all three. Note that RMR needs a five-hour fast, so morning slots are easiest.
Do you offer packages or memberships?
No memberships. Pricing is per test — $99 for one, $198 for two, $297 for three — whether that's one visit or four across a year.
Can I buy a scan for someone else?
Yes. Gift cards are available in any denomination and don't expire.
